The Haiti Philatelic Society

Designed for collectors of the stamp and revenue issues of Haiti.

The society is dedicated to the purpose of informing interested persons about all aspects of the Haitian postal system from the mid 1700’s to the present time. The Society is composed of collectors of all degrees of sophistication from beginners to advanced specialists. However, all are constantly learning from each other largely through the interesting articles in our quarterly journal, Haiti Philately.

The Postal History Society

On 26th September 1936, at the suggestion of Fred Melville, a group of eminent philatelists met at the offices of Robson Lowe. By a unanimous decision The Postal History Society was formed and a small committee appointed to draw up the rules. The objects of the Society were, and remain, the promotion and encouragement of the study of postal communications, local, national and international, to publish a journal for members and other works relating to postal history. Helgoland The Pre-Adhesive Stamp Period

Danish Rule

Letters from England to Helgoland are known from as early as 1810. Because Helgoland was officially under Danish rule until 1814 mail was cancelled with a red “Foreign” cancel inscribed with the number “195” and year.

The Stamps of Helgoland

Introduction

Helgoland (Heligoland to the English and on the stamps) is located in the North Sea about 30 miles from Schleswig-Holstein and sixty miles from the great Elbe river port of Hamburg. It was taken from the Danish and given to the British as a part of the settlement following the Napoleonic wars. While the British used it for its naval facilities and tourism local fisherman and farmers inhabited it.

The aims of the Transvaal club is to study and promote the Stamps, Postal History, Postcards, Revenue documents and Post Office practises of the Transvaal / South African Republic which includes the New Republic, Stellaland, Goshen, Pietersburg and early Swaziland.

The Encyclopaedia of Jamaican Philately

The editor and contributors to the encyclopaedia are aiming to document everything known about the postal history and stamps of Jamaica. The project has been running since 1990 and the amount of information they have collated is a fantastic achievement. They envisage it will take a further 25 years to complete (if, indeed ever).

The Czechoslovak Postage Stamp Library

Detailed images of every Czechoslovak and Czech Republic stamp (with the exception of the 1919 POŠTA ČESKOSLOVENSKÁ overprints and the stamps of Bohemia & Moravia), almost every souvenir sheet, minisheet, and gutter, as well as examples of se-tenant, tete-beche, booklet, and coupon pieces can be found in this online library.

With more than 3000 stamps listed, imaged and cross referenced the editor Mark Wilson continues to grow the reference. The library is highly recommended and can be found here:
